FAQ
What is the FIHB?
What is the FIHB?
The Federation of Iberian Horse Breeders is a registry for Lusitanos, Spanish horses, and their cross-breeds.
What is a Pura Raza Espanola?
The PRE means Pure Spanish Horse. It refers to purebred horses of what some call 'Andalusians', although there is no Andalusian breed in the Spanish registry.
What is a Puro Sangue Lusitano?
PSL are the Lusitano equivalent of the PRE. They are the purest of Lusitano blood.
What is Caballo de Deporte Espanol?
It stands for Spanish Sport Horse, and refers to a horse with only one PRE or PSL parent. Horses with patterns not accepted by either breed are registered as CDE, since they are not of pure old blood to obtain a gene unnatural to the breed (ie a pinto spanish horse). Cross breeds can also have CDE papers if one of their parents were a PRE/PSL; example: Hispano-Arabe (pre). Most cross breeds will eventually have their own studbooks.
Can my horse be registered as a PRE/PSL?
All Spanish(pre) or Portuguese(PSL) horses, regardless of file used, are eligible for registration as long as they fit the standard.
What horses would not fit the standard?
Horses that are not the correct color do not fit the standard and will be registered as CDE.
What colors are allowed?
Please see the standard in the registration area for accepted colors in all breeds we register here.
Are half-breeds or horses registered as CDE worth less?
NO! Spanish Horses and Lusitanos create amazing horses when crossed with other breeds, they even have their own breed names. CDE registration at the FIHB is for PRE/PSL crossbreeds, and Spanish Horses that do not fit the standard, who may be referred to still as Andalusian, just not PRE.
I want my horse to be a purebred Andalusian but doesn't fit the standard, what should I do?
Andalusian is a term used for unregistered purebred Spanish horses, or for Spanish horse cross-breeds. There is no horse breed in the rl Spanish Studbook/Registry that is called the 'Andalusian', it is mostly an American term. If your horse does not fit the standard to be PRE, you may still obtain half papers {CDE) and can refer to your horse as an Andalusian (purebred or cross, your own choice).
Why do I not have my own studbook?
All members must have 5 registered horses before you get your own studbook. Until then your horses will show up in the general studbook.
